Inter's Recent Struggles Do Not Define Their Progress, Asserts Coach Simone Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi highlights that Inter's recent poor form does not diminish their achievements in the last four years, including winning the Scudetto and Coppa Italia titles. He emphasises the team's resilience as they prepare for a crucial Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Inter Milan's recent setbacks in Serie A and the Coppa Italia have not overshadowed their achievements over the past four years, according to head coach Simone Inzaghi. Since taking charge in 2021, Inzaghi has led Inter to a Scudetto victory in 2023-24, two Coppa Italia titles, and a Champions League final appearance against Manchester City in 2023.

Despite recent losses to Bologna and Roma, which dropped them to second place in Serie A, and a defeat by AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final, Inzaghi remains optimistic. He emphasised that these results do not erase the progress made over the years. "The last week does not erase the work done in four years," he stated during a press conference before their Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.

Inzaghi: Inter's Form Does Not Define Progress

Inzaghi highlighted that Inter's current position allows them to compete for all objectives, despite initial doubts about their ability to finish in Italy's top four. The upcoming match against Barcelona offers an opportunity for Inter to shift focus from domestic challenges. "We come from a bad week, but we can do and we have to do better," Inzaghi said.

The coach expressed excitement about facing Barcelona, acknowledging their formidable attack and goal-scoring prowess. "We're excited about the game we're going to play tomorrow against probably the best team in the world," he added. Inzaghi stressed the importance of technical precision and sacrifice to overcome such a strong opponent.

There is positive news for Inter as top scorer Marcus Thuram has returned from injury ahead of the Barcelona clash. However, Inzaghi did not confirm if Thuram would play in Spain. "Thuram had his first training session today with the team," Inzaghi mentioned. He noted that Thuram showed promising signs but would make a final decision after further evaluation.

The coach acknowledged Barcelona's impressive statistics and title wins but maintained confidence in Inter's abilities. "We want to play a semi-final like a real Inter tomorrow," he asserted. Despite respecting their opponents' strengths, Inzaghi emphasised that fear was not part of their approach.

As they prepare for this crucial match, Inter aims to demonstrate resilience and skill on the European stage. Their journey under Inzaghi reflects significant progress and ambition, even amidst recent challenges.
