Inter Milan Dominates Verona With 5-0 Victory To Take Serie A Lead

Inter Milan achieved an impressive 5-0 win against Verona, scoring all goals in the first half. This victory propelled them to the top of Serie A with 28 points.

Inter Milan delivered a dominant performance against Verona, securing a 5-0 victory away from home. All five goals were scored in the first half, propelling Inter to the top of the Serie A table. Casper Tengstedt nearly gave Verona an early lead, hitting the post just six minutes into the match. However, Inter quickly took control after that initial scare.

Joaquin Correa was instrumental in Inter's early success. He hit the crossbar before opening the scoring in the 17th minute with a skilful chip over Lorenzo Montipo. Marcus Thuram then added two quick goals within three minutes, showcasing his ability to outsmart the goalkeeper and find the net with ease.

Inter Milan Secures 5-0 Win Over Verona

Substitute Stefan de Vrij contributed to Inter's tally by scoring their fourth goal past Montipo. Yann Bisseck completed the first-half onslaught by finding the top corner despite stumbling initially. This impressive display allowed Inter to rest key players ahead of their upcoming Champions League fixture.

This match marked only the second time in Inter's Serie A history that they scored five goals in the first half of an away game. The last occurrence was against Sampdoria in March 1964. Inter capitalised on all five shots on target during this period, significantly exceeding their expected goals (xG) of 2.79.

Correa's Return to Scoring

Joaquin Correa ended a long goal drought in Serie A, scoring for the first time since October 29, 2022, against Sampdoria at Meazza. Remarkably, all three of his away goals have been scored against Verona at Bentegodi.

The second half saw fewer chances as both teams settled into a more subdued pace. Correa came close to adding another goal but was denied by the crossbar once again. Despite this quieter period, Inter's first-half performance ensured they leapfrogged Napoli to take first place with 28 points.

Verona remains in 14th position with 12 points following this defeat. The result highlights Inter's attacking prowess and tactical efficiency under Simone Inzaghi's management.
