Inter Milan And Hellas Verona Share Spoils As Bowie Nets Last-gasp Equaliser

Inter missed the chance to sign off at San Siro with a win in their final Serie A home match, as relegated Hellas Verona claimed a 1-1 draw. Kieron Bowie struck in stoppage time, cancelling out Andrias Edmundsson’s earlier own goal for the champions.

Bowie’s leveller also continued a personal scoring run that now covers all of Verona’s last four Serie A goals. Inter, despite the late setback, still extended a long unbeaten sequence against Verona in league meetings and at home.

Inter Verona draw as Bowie nets late equaliser

The first clear opening actually belonged to Verona midway through the first half. Bowie met a cross with a firm header, and Yann Sommer reacted with a sharp reflex save to push the effort away. That stop kept the match goalless at the interval.

Inter moved in front just two minutes after the restart. Petar Susic delivered an inswinging corner, Ange-Yoan Bonny rose to meet it, and Edmundsson inadvertently turned the header beyond Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo. The own goal appeared to give the hosts full control.

Simone Inzaghi’s side almost doubled the advantage close to the hour. Henrikh Mkhitaryan forced Montipo into action, and Lautaro Martinez’s follow-up was also blocked. Verona responded through substitute Amin Sarr, who broke through on goal, but Sommer stood tall to keep out the low strike.

Inter continued to create chances as time ran down. Mattia Mosconi was unable to convert from a promising position, while Susic also failed to finish another opportunity that might have settled the contest. Those misses kept Verona alive heading towards added time.

Verona punished that wastefulness in the first minute of stoppage time. A long ball over the top released Bowie, who timed the run and finished calmly into the far corner. The goal secured a valuable point for Verona’s morale, despite relegation already confirmed.

Serie A: Inter extend dominance over Verona

Bowie’s contribution stands out across Verona’s recent Serie A fixtures. The Scotland international has scored each of the club’s last four league goals. The last Verona player to manage that streak was Giovanni Simeone in 2021, highlighting Bowie’s current importance.

Only two Verona players have ever scored four consecutive away goals for the club in Serie A. Bowie is the latest, joining Antonin Barak, who reached the same mark in 2022. The current run now places Bowie alongside Barak in the club’s recent history.

Serie A record Detail
Inter vs Verona unbeaten run 30 matches (W24)
Inter longest streak vs one opponent 30 vs Verona, 30 vs Sampdoria (1961-1977)
Inter home unbeaten run vs Verona 35 matches
Record home streak vs single opponent 35 by Juventus vs Verona, 35 by Inter vs Verona

Although Inter could not finish the league campaign at San Siro with a win, strong historical trends continued. Inter are now unbeaten in 30 Serie A games against Verona, matching the club record. Inter also equalled Juventus’ mark of 35 undefeated home league matches against the same opponent.
