Inter's Wastefulness Leads To Disappointment In Juventus Defeat For Simone Inzaghi

Simone Inzaghi criticises Inter's lack of finishing after their defeat to Juventus. Despite dominating early, they failed to convert chances, missing an opportunity to lead Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi expressed his frustration after Inter Milan's defeat to Juventus on Sunday. The loss prevented Inter from overtaking Napoli at the top of Serie A. Francisco Conceicao scored the only goal for Juventus in the 74th minute, assisted by Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite dominating the first half, Inter failed to capitalise on their chances.

During the first half, Inter had opportunities worth 1.71 expected goals (xG) compared to Juventus' 0.42. However, they couldn't convert these chances into goals. After halftime, Inter's performance declined, losing the xG battle 0.93 to 0.24 and failing to register a single shot on target.

Inter Misses Chances in Juventus Loss

"There is a lot of regret and disappointment, but the boys showed great organisation and courage," Inzaghi told DAZN. "We needed to score more goals and finish the first half with a lead."

The Inter coach made three substitutions in the 62nd minute due to Juventus' dominance after the break and Inter's lack of fluidity. Inzaghi explained, "We had to do better; the last situation was wrong." He lamented that despite having numerous chances in Turin over nine years, they couldn't secure a win.

Inzaghi acknowledged that losing was painful as they were eager for victory. "Everything is still open, but we need to change the tempo," he added.

Upcoming Challenges

Inter could have taken the lead in the title race after Napoli drew 2-2 with Lazio. Now, they trail by two points with 54 from 25 games. Inter will face Antonio Conte's Napoli on March 2, but Inzaghi remains focused on immediate fixtures.

"It will be an important game, like tonight, but we have other games first," said Inzaghi. His team will host Genoa in the league next week before facing Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Inzaghi emphasised that improvements are necessary following their recent performance against Juventus.
