The much-anticipated Intercontinental Cup 2024 is set to commence on September 3, featuring the Indian football team, Syria football team, and Mauritius football team. This Tri-Nation series will see each team playing the other over three matches within a week.

The tournament, organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), is seen as a vital warm-up for the Indian team, who are keen to defend their title after winning the 2023 edition in Bhubaneswar.

This year's edition pits India against higher-ranked Syria, currently at 93 on the FIFA rankings, and Mauritius, who sit at 179. India, ranked 124, face a formidable challenge but are buoyed by their recent form and the prospect of playing on home turf.

The tournament comes right on the heels of the Durand Cup, which concluded on August 31 with Mohun Bagan clinching the title against NorthEast United. Several players from Mohun Bagan.

These players have been pivotal in their team's recent success, and many of them are expected to feature in India's probable 26-man squad. These players will soon be heading to Hyderabad to begin their training camp in preparation for the Intercontinental Cup.

Schedule and Venue

The Gachibowli Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad will host all three matches of the tournament. The Telangana government has invested more than Rs. 15 crores to upgrade the stadium facilities in anticipation of this prestigious event.

The renovations include new dressing rooms, officials' rooms, and 18,000 bucket seats, ensuring that the venue is well-prepared to accommodate players, officials, and fans. The winner of the tournament will be determined based on the results of these three matches.
