Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is eagerly anticipating his return to Lazio, a club he believes will be strong contenders for the Serie A title this season. Inzaghi, who played 133 matches and scored 28 goals for Lazio, also managed the team from 2016 to 2021, winning several trophies before moving to Inter.
During his time at Lazio, Inzaghi led the team in 254 games across all competitions, securing victory in 134 of those matches. His win rate was an impressive 53.39%. As a player, he won the Scudetto in the 1999-00 season and later claimed the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana twice as a manager.

Reflecting on his experiences, Inzaghi expressed gratitude towards his former teammates and players. "For me, matches against Lazio will never be the same as any others," he told Inter TV. "Even though this will be the eighth time I've faced them as a coach, there's always a special feeling when returning to the Stadio Olimpico."
Inter currently sits third in Serie A, trailing leaders Atalanta by six points but with two games in hand. The team has been impressive on the road this year, scoring 41 away goals in Serie A during 2024. This achievement is only surpassed by their performances in 1949 and 2021.
The Nerazzurri have secured 12 away victories this year. Another win would match their record of most away wins in a calendar year, achieved in both 2007 and 2021. Despite their recent Champions League setback against Bayer Leverkusen, Inzaghi remains optimistic about their prospects.
Lazio stands fifth in Serie A, level on points with Inter. Inzaghi anticipates a challenging encounter against his former club. "We know European matches take energy away," he said. "But it's the same for Inter, for Lazio, and for all teams that play in European competitions."
He acknowledged that both teams would strive to deliver an exceptional performance. "We're facing a team who have won sixteen out of the 22 official matches they've played this season," Inzaghi noted. He emphasised that interpreting the match correctly would be crucial.
Inzaghi believes this season's title race will be closely contested with many contenders having strengthened their squads. He considers Lazio as one of these contenders due to their improvements and potential to challenge for top honours.
As Inter prepares for their clash at Stadio Olimpico on Monday, Inzaghi remains focused on reclaiming their Serie A crown while cherishing his memories with Lazio.
