Simone Inzaghi is approaching Inter's Champions League match against Manchester City without viewing it as a repeat of last year's final. In the 2023 final, Inter was narrowly defeated 1-0 by Pep Guardiola's team due to Rodri's decisive goal in Istanbul. Inzaghi emphasises that the new Champions League format and the stakes being lower make this encounter distinct from their previous meeting.
The Inter head coach expressed his thoughts during a press conference on Tuesday, stating, "Tomorrow starts a new Champions League, that will be very different." He recalled watching the final again during a training camp a month ago. However, he does not consider this game a rematch since it is part of the group stage under the revised format.

Inzaghi is optimistic about the changes in the tournament structure. The new format involves clubs playing eight matches within a 36-team league phase, replacing the traditional group stage. Despite his enthusiasm, he acknowledges the increased workload on players due to more games.
This concern was echoed by Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who mentioned players are nearing a strike due to the demanding schedule. Inzaghi remarked, "We know that you play a lot and we coaches are aware of that."
Inzaghi finds preparing for these matches both beautiful and exciting despite acknowledging existing challenges. He plans to rotate players as much as possible to manage fatigue. Currently, Federico Dimarco and Marko Arnautovic are unavailable, but Inzaghi is accustomed to limited rotations over the past two years.
Despite Manchester City's unbeaten home record in the competition since 2018, Inzaghi urges his team to play with aggression and determination. He believes several factors must align for them to deliver an outstanding performance against such formidable opponents.
"I can say that preparing these games for a coach is beautiful and exciting," Inzaghi added. He remains hopeful about overcoming challenges and advancing further in the tournament.
The upcoming match offers Inter an opportunity to showcase their capabilities under the new format while managing player workloads effectively. The team's strategy will focus on balancing aggression with tactical discipline against Manchester City.
