Inzaghi Expresses Frustration Over Missed Chances In Thrilling Derby D'Italia Draw

Simone Inzaghi lamented Inter Milan's missed opportunities and defensive mistakes after their dramatic 4-4 draw with Juventus. Despite creating numerous chances, the team struggled defensively, highlighting areas for improvement.

Inter Milan's coach, Simone Inzaghi, expressed his disappointment over missed chances and defensive lapses following their 4-4 draw against Juventus in the Derby d'Italia. Inter initially took the lead with Piotr Zielinski's penalty, but Juventus responded quickly with goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Timothy Weah. Despite regaining the lead through Henrikh Mkhitaryan and another Zielinski penalty, Inter conceded twice to Kenan Yildiz, who made history as the youngest player to score two goals in this fixture.

Inzaghi was particularly frustrated with his team's defensive errors, which he felt cost them a deserved victory. "We lost our shape a bit, then on the fourth goal we made a series of mistakes," he said. The match ended with Inter having an expected goals (xG) tally of 3.13 compared to Juventus' 2.17, highlighting their failure to capitalise on scoring opportunities.

Inzaghi Rues Missed Chances in Derby Draw

Inter's defensive issues have been evident this season. Last year, they conceded only 22 goals en route to the title but have already let in nine from their first nine games this term. Inzaghi admitted that conceding such goals is unacceptable and noted that they might have won comfortably last season under similar circumstances.

Despite the draw feeling like a loss, Inzaghi acknowledged some positives from the game. He highlighted his team's ability to create numerous scoring chances against a strong Juventus defence that had only conceded once in Serie A before this match. "It is right that the team feels disappointed and angry," Inzaghi stated, emphasising the need to focus on both strengths and weaknesses.

The match marked only the third time in Serie A history that eight goals were scored between these two teams. Inzaghi noted that while it was not a defeat, it certainly felt like one due to how events unfolded during the game. He also reflected on whether he could have done more to prevent Juventus' comeback.

Inzaghi plans to discuss these issues with his players soon as they looked dejected after the match. "There is bitterness but as a coach I must analyse and talk to them tomorrow," he mentioned. The team needs to address these concerns if they aim for success this season.

The thrilling encounter at San Siro showcased both teams' attacking prowess but also highlighted areas needing improvement for Inter Milan. As they move forward in Serie A, addressing defensive vulnerabilities will be crucial for maintaining their competitive edge in future matches.
