Championship Top Scorer Sammie Szmodics Completes Move To Ipswich Town

Sammie Szmodics, last year's Championship top scorer with 33 goals, has moved to Ipswich Town from Blackburn Rovers for a reported £10m fee. Signing a four-year deal, Szmodics is set to enhance Ipswich's attacking options in the Premier League.

Last year's Championship top scorer, Sammie Szmodics, has joined Ipswich Town from Blackburn Rovers for a reported £10 million fee. Szmodics, who netted 33 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, has signed a four-year contract with Ipswich.

Szmodics' arrival strengthens Kieran McKenna's attacking options. Ipswich scored 92 goals last season, only surpassed by Stockport County and Manchester City, both with 96 goals in England's top four tiers. Szmodics becomes the seventh new signing for Ipswich this season.

Szmodics Joins Ipswich in £10m Deal

In the previous campaign, Szmodics scored 27 league goals, outperforming his expected goals (xG) by 4.64 from 145 shots over 46 games. He also created 49 chances, more than any of his Blackburn teammates. Only Adam Armstrong had more combined goals and assists (37) than Szmodics (31) in the Championship.

The 28-year-old has continued his scoring form into the current season, netting three times in his first two games in the league and Carabao Cup. His addition is expected to provide a significant boost to Ipswich's offensive capabilities.

Szmodics joins other new arrivals at Ipswich including Omari Hutchinson, Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, Arijanet Muric, Conor Townsend, and Ben Johnson. These signings aim to enhance the squad as they prepare for the Premier League challenge.

"I am delighted to be here as an Ipswich Town player," Szmodics told Ipswich's club website. "There's always been interest since I was a kid, but it just felt right this time with the challenge of the Premier League."

Excitement for Premier League Challenge

Szmodics expressed his excitement about joining Ipswich and playing under manager Kieran McKenna. "After speaking to a couple of the lads, including Lewis Travis who was here last season, they just pushed me and said that I need to come and work under this manager," he said.

"It's every boy's dream to play in the Premier League and I've always said to my friends, family and agents that I'll get to the top one day," he added. "There's nothing more I want than to score at Portman Road for Ipswich Town."

Szmodics was registered in time to be available for their opening game of the Premier League season against Liverpool at Portman Road on Saturday.
