Ireland Football: Troy Parrott Praises Team Quality Following Victory Over Bulgaria

After a 2-1 victory against Bulgaria, Troy Parrott emphasised Ireland's squad depth and quality. The team's performance showcased their attacking strength and unity ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Troy Parrott's standout performance in the Republic of Ireland's 2-1 victory over Bulgaria at Dublin's Aviva Stadium highlighted the team's depth. Valentin Antonov scored first for Bulgaria after 30 minutes, but Evan Ferguson equalised with a goal assisted by Finn Azaz. Adam Idah, who came on in the 65th minute, secured the win with an 84th-minute goal following a quick counterattack.

The match result mirrored their earlier promotion-relegation tie win, where goals from Azaz and Matt Doherty overturned Marin Plamenov Petkov's early strike. Parrott expressed his preference for playing as a central striker but praised his teammates' performances. "I don't think it's a secret, I have said before that playing [as a number nine] is my favourite position and that's where I feel like I'm the strongest," he stated.

Parrott Highlights Ireland's Strength After Win

Parrott acknowledged the quality within the team, highlighting Ferguson and Idah's contributions. "We have a lot of quality in this team. You saw with Evan Ferguson and his goal, and Adam Idah came on and scored his goal. I would have liked to score a goal for myself too, but the most important thing is that we won the game," he added.

Adam Idah expressed frustration over limited playtime in previous matches but was pleased to prove himself when given the chance. "Of course I was frustrated with the last game, not coming on and not starting, I was obviously disappointed," he admitted. "But I came on and did what I needed to do and that's the best way to prove myself."

Ireland manager Heimier Hallgrimsson commended his substitutes' impact, noting their understanding of team principles. "There are more players now understanding our principles of play, so hopefully we can grow from now on," he said. He also mentioned positive signs of growth during this camp.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Fixtures

Ireland secured their Nations League B status with a 4-2 aggregate win over Bulgaria. They will face Senegal and Luxembourg in June friendlies before starting World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia in September.

The squad's attacking strength has been a topic of discussion ahead of these fixtures. Parrott, Ferguson, and Idah have all enjoyed successful domestic seasons, contributing to Ireland's offensive capabilities.
