Dan Burn expressed concern over the potential departure of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, highlighting the impact it could have on the team. Isak, who had an impressive 2024-25 season, is not part of Eddie Howe's squad for their pre-season tour in Asia. Speculation about his transfer has intensified as he was also absent from a recent friendly against Celtic.
Despite Newcastle attributing Isak's absence to a minor thigh injury, reports suggest that the striker has requested to leave the club. Liverpool is reportedly leading the race to sign him, even after acquiring Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69 million, with potential add-ons of up to £9 million. Newcastle is said to be demanding around £130 million for Isak.

Burn emphasised how losing any player would disrupt their closely-knit group that has been together for two or three years. "If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that's been together for two or three years now," Burn stated. He acknowledged Isak's importance but noted the squad's overall quality, including new signing Anthony Elanga.
Isak's contributions have been significant, becoming the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 2001-02 to score 23 goals in a Premier League season. His performance was crucial in securing Newcastle's first domestic trophy since 1955 when they won the EFL Cup against Liverpool in March.
Since joining from Real Sociedad in August 2022, Isak has made 109 appearances across all competitions, scoring 62 goals and providing 10 assists. Bruno Guimaraes commented on Isak's situation, stating he was unaware of any desire to leave but stressed Newcastle's intention to retain their top players.
"Of course, he's a top player, and we know everything going on around him," Guimaraes said. He clarified that Isak remained at home for physical treatment due to his injury and reiterated the club's desire to keep its best talents.
Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia includes matches against Arsenal in Singapore and games in South Korea against a K-League All-Star team and Tottenham. The team aims to focus on what they can control amid transfer speculations surrounding key players like Isak.
The uncertainty surrounding Isak's future remains a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike. However, Newcastle continues preparing for the upcoming season with optimism and determination.
