ISL 2023-24: Bengaluru FC Part Ways With Head Coach Simon Grayson After Poor Run Of Results

Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC on Saturday (December 9) announced that the club has "mutually parted ways" with head coach Simon Grayson. The club added that assistant coach Neil McDonald also will be leaving the club.

This comes after Bengaluru FC's poor run of results in the ongoing ISL 2023-24 season in which the Englishman oversaw the side win once, draw 4 times and lose 4 times to sit in the 9th position on the ISL points table with 7 points.

There were reports that BFC were considering sacking Grayson and the news became official just 12 hours after the side lost 0-4 to Mumbai City FC on Friday (December 8) night. That was BFC's second defeat in the six-match winless run in ISL.

"The club would like to thank Grayson for his time at Bengaluru FC, that included a remarkable turnaround in the League last season, and for adding the Durand Cup to Bengaluru's trophy cabinet. The club wishes him nothing but the best for his future." BFC said in a statement.

Grayson, who had joined the club at the start of the 2022-23 season replacing German Marco Pezzaiuoli, led the Blues to three finals - winning the Durand Cup, while finishing second best in the Super Cup and the Indian Super League final.

The 2018-19 champions will hope for quick turnaround of results and will announce Grayson's replacement shortly, but for now assistant coach Renedy Singh will take charge on the interim.

Grayson was the fifth full time coach and the fifth foreign coach of the Bengaluru FC, who also had Naushad Moosa take charge on the interim basis when Spaniard Carles Cudart parted ways in January 2021.

Bengaluru FC, who secured their only win in October against East Bengal at home, will play their next game away to Chennaiyin FC in the Southern Derby on December 13 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
