Mohun Bagan Super Giant won their third straight game of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season by easily defeating Chennaiyin FC 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium.
The Mariners breezed through their first away game of the season thanks to goals from Australian offensive combination Dimitri Petratos and Jason Cummings in the first half. Sahal Abdul Samad, though, stole the show this evening.

Without any delay at all, Juan Ferrando's men got into the swing of things. When he took a shot in the ninth minute, defender Anwar Ali showed quickness in his forward movement. The visitor led the assault at the Chennaiyin box from all sides, executing offensive movements freely.
All of Mohun Bagan's goal-scoring attempts tonight have attacking midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad at their core. On the right side, he quickly crossed the ball to Petratos at the near post after deftly outpacing his marker. The attacker did not second-guess himself as he expertly lobbed the ball past Samik Mitra of the Chennaiyin.
Approaching halftime, Sahal made the decision to take matters into his own hands and fired a shot that deflected and fell into Cummings' path. The opportunity to help his club go up by two goals was quickly seize by the forward.
At the interval, Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle made some adjustments. Rafael Crivellaro, a Brazilian playmaker, was revealed as his secret weapon. In the 55th minute, the substitute scored right away by converting a free kick. Five minutes later, he nearly assisted Farukh Choudhary with a razor-sharp through ball, putting his artistic abilities on full display.
The Mariners had recovered their two-goal advantage by that point, though, thanks to Sahal's brilliant run that split the Chennaiyin defence apart immediately following Crivellaro's free kick. Defenders were drawn to him by his incisive sprint, which allowed Manvir Singh to move into the open on the right wing. The attacker received the ball from Sahal quickly, took a hard shot, and scored his team's third goal of the game. After this goal, Ferrando was quick to recognise a window of opportunity, bolstering his defence and putting a halt to any additional goal passage from their end.
