NorthEast United FC looked for some stability with their coaching staff as head coach Juan Pedro Benali was handed a year contract extension with an option to add one more season after a positive show by the club in the ongoing ISL 2023-24 season.
NorthEast United FC have been perennial underachievers of the ISL as they often finish among the bottom half of the table. However, since Juan Pedro Benali's arrival last summer, the club reached the semifinals of the Durand Cup and are currently holding the last playoff spot (6th) with 12 points in 12 games in the ISL 2023-24.

The team has already eclipsed their total points from the previous season, when they finished as the worst team in the league. The Spanish tactician has proven to be an outstanding coach, leading NorthEast United FC through difficult times with perseverance and fortitude.
In addition to nurturing young people and providing them with opportunities to excel, he has demonstrated his ability to shape and develop players. Benali conveyed his appreciation to the club for their ongoing support.
"I am very happy to extend my contract with NorthEast United FC. The faith shown in me by the club's management motivates me to continue working towards creating a legacy that extends beyond this season.
"We are committed to developing a squad that not only competes at the highest level but also inspires future generations of footballers. Together, we aim to make NorthEast United FC a force within Indian football," Benali was quoted as saying by ISL.
Owner of NorthEast United FC, John Abraham, expressed his confidence in Benali's abilities.
"Our fans are the heartbeat of NorthEast United, and this contract extension is our commitment to them. Juan's passion for the game, combined with his ability to unlock the potential of young players, makes him the perfect leader for our team. Together, we are poised to set a benchmark for success in the seasons to come," stated John.
