The club has signed 4 new foreign players, Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahouh, Cy Goddard and Roy Krishna while only Golden Boot winner Diego Mauricio and defender Carlos Delgado are the only two foreigners who have been retained. Odisha would be looking to return to winning ways after losing their AFC Cup opening match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Chennaiyin FC, on the other side, has rehired their old manager Owen Coyle as head coach. Coyle was the club's coach the last time Chennaiyin FC reached the Indian Super League final. After placing 8th in the ISL points table previous season, Chennaiyin FC would like to return to glory days under Owen Coyle.

Chennaiyin have also made major changes in their foreign department, with 6 foreign players, one of whom is Rafael Crivellaro, a former Chennaiyin player who has returned to the team after spending last season with Jamshedpur FC. Anirudh Thapa, the team's captain, has also left the club.
