Chennaiyin FC will aim to get back on track when they face Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a pivotal ISL 2024-25 encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, on Saturday. This will mark the Marina Machans' seventh away game of the season.
In their previous eight Indian Super League meetings, Chennaiyin has defeated Mohun Bagan twice. Last season, they secured a thrilling 3-2 victory in this fixture, with Irfan Yadwad scoring a dramatic winner in the 97th minute.

Currently, five points separate the two teams in the standings, but a positive result could see Owen Coyle's side narrow that gap. Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Chennai, Coyle expressed confidence in his team's ability to rebound.
"This is the perfect opportunity for us to return to form," he stated. "We missed big chances against Kerala, including one to equalize, and conceded soft goals. Against a strong side like Mohun Bagan, we have to step up our game defensively and capitalize on our opportunities."
Coyle also acknowledged the support from the fans. "Over 200 of our fans were in Kerala, and I feel for them because we didn't perform to our potential. Now, we must show resilience and prove ourselves in high-pressure arenas like this one if we aspire to reach the playoffs."
Chennaiyin has been one of the league's most creative teams this season, with Connor Shields leading the ISL in chances created, producing 34 in just eight matches. Shields missed the previous game due to illness.
However, he has since resumed training and is expected to feature in Saturday's clash. Striker Irfan highlighted the need to translate chances into goals. "We're creating plenty of opportunities, but as a team, we need to improve our finishing," he remarked.
Coyle also provided updates on player availability. Defender PC Laldinpuia will return to action after serving a one-match suspension, while fullback Ankit Mukherjee is nearing full fitness and could make his comeback in the coming weeks.
The two teams have met a total of eight times in the competition. Chennaiyin won two times, Mohun Bagan won three times and the rest of the three matches ended up in draws. Chennaiyin's playoff hopes hinge on delivering a strong performance in Kolkata, setting up an exciting showdown against the Mariners.
