Chennaiyin FC has bolstered their defence with the signing of seasoned right-back Laldinliana Renthlei before the start of ISL 2024-25 season. The 26-year-old, hailing from Mizoram, is rejoining the club after a previous stint that began in the ISL 2018-19 season. Last season, Renthlei represented Odisha FC during the ISL 2023-24 campaign.
During his first tenure with Chennaiyin FC, Renthlei played a pivotal role in the club's journey to the final of the 2019-20 Indian Super League season, where Chennaiyin finished runners-up. His return marks the club's 13th signing this summer, joining a defensive roster that now includes Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Mandar Rao Desai, and PC Laldinpuia.

Owen Coyle, the head coach of Chennaiyin FC, expressed his enthusiasm for Renthlei's return to the squad. "I'm absolutely delighted to bring Dinliana back to the club. I worked with him during season six when we reached the ISL final, and he was an outstanding full-back. He also came with me to Jamshedpur, where we won the Shield," Coyle said.
He added, "He's a fantastic defender and a tremendous addition to the squad. Dinliana has already been a champion in India, and that's the type of pedigree and profile we want at the club. Despite his relatively young age, he brings great experience and will be a wonderful presence both on and off the field."
Renthlei's defensive abilities, along with his strong runs down the right flank, are expected to provide stability to Chennaiyin FC's back line. His versatility and experience will also offer the team an additional dimension both defensively and offensively.
Upon his return, Renthlei stated, "Joining Chennaiyin FC again is very important for me, and I'm excited to give my best for this amazing club. The goal this season is clear - work hard, stay focused, and push ourselves to win the ISL. I chose Chennaiyin because of its winning spirit, the incredible fans, and of course coach Owen, who I have worked with in the past and has shown faith in me by getting me to the club once again. Together, we'll aim high."
Renthlei's football journey began with Chhinga Veng, where his performances led the team to a Mizoram Premier League (MPL) title in the 2017-18 season. He later joined Aizawl FC before moving to Chennaiyin FC, Jamshedpur FC, and Odisha FC.
