ISL 2024-25: East Bengal register unwanted record with Two Red Cards in 1 minute against Mohammedan

East Bengal's return to ISL football has started in the worst possible fashion as they are up against Mohammedan at the Salt Lake stadium.

In the high-voltage Kolkata derby, Oscar Bruzon's men have slumped into a massive dig with two Red Cards in the first half.

Nandha Kumar was shown a straight Red Card in the 29th minute of the match. Nandha lashed out his hand with Amarjit Singh Kiyam during a duel with the Mohammedan player. The referee Harish Kundu consulted with his assistant and showed Nandha a straight Red Card.

Just seconds after, Naorem Mahesh was shown his second Yellow card as the East Bengal winger was also given his marching orders. As Nandha was shown a Red, Mahesh got frustrated and kicked a water bottle just right in front of the 4th official, which prompted the referee to show him his second yellow.

East Bengal have played out the first half of the match with a two-man disadvantage but it remains goalless in Kolkata.

With the Red Cards, East Bengal have now become the first team in ISL history to get two players suspended in the first half. In the ISL history, this is only just the 4th instance when a team have had two sent-offs in a match.

East Bengal, till the end of the first half, now have the most cards this season. The Torch Bearers have seen 22 Yellow Cards and 4 Red Cards already this season and needs a leash in their discipline.
