ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC Beat Punjab FC 2-1; Javier Siverio Scores Brace

By MyKhel Staff

Jamshedpur FC secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Punjab FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, with Javier Siverio scoring a brace to lead the Men of Steel to their second consecutive home win in the Indian Super League or ISL 2024-25 season.

This result propelled Jamshedpur FC to sixth place in the points table, further enhancing their chances of a strong season.

Jamshedpur FC vs Punjab FC

The match, marked by a tense first half, saw Jamshedpur FC dominate possession with 52.3% and a total of 14 shots, compared to Punjab FC's 9. However, despite this superiority, the first half remained scoreless until the dying minutes.

Just before the break, in the 45th minute, Jamshedpur FC capitalized on a well-executed training ground routine. Shubham Sarangi's long throw-in found Stephen Eze, whose header was perfectly directed to Javi Hernandez. Hernandez then flicked the ball to Siverio, who was in the right place at the right time to slot it home, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Punjab FC quickly responded after the restart. In the 46th minute, Luka Majcen's impressive control of a long ball set up Ezequiel Vidal, who finished coolly to bring the visitors level. This goal injected fresh energy into Punjab FC, but Jamshedpur FC was relentless in their pursuit of a winner.

Despite a few near-misses-most notably a stunning volley from Javi Hernandez that was saved by Punjab FC goalkeeper Muheet Shabir in the 52nd minute -- Jamshedpur FC continued to push forward. The breakthrough came in the 84th minute, as Nikhil Barla's precise cross found Siverio in the box. The Spanish forward made no mistake, heading the ball into the net to seal the win for Jamshedpur FC.

Siverio's brace was the standout performance of the match, as he not only scored the decisive goals but also contributed with his link-up play, completing 16 passes out of 25 attempts. His clinical finishing and ability to find space were crucial for Jamshedpur FC in securing the three points.

With this victory, Jamshedpur FC will look to build on their momentum as they prepare for their next challenge, while Punjab FC will aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures. Both teams will face East Bengal FC in their next respective matches.
