Mohammedan SC has been hit with a fine of ₹1 lakh after the AIFF and ISL served them a notice regarding the fan violence during their match against Kerala Blasters on October 20.
During Mohammedan Sporting Club’s 1-2 defeat against Kerala Blasters at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Sunday, home fans threw bottles, sticks, and stones at opposition players during the second half.

After complaints from the Kerala Blasters players, the match had to be temporarily halted to ensure the security of the footballers and the travelling supporters. After the match, both sets of clubs released statements strongly condemning the incident.
Based on the incident, the AIFF has imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh, which is the minimum penalty in cases of 'fan misconduct’, on the Kolkata-based club. The AIFF notified Mohammedan SC via email on Tuesday, October 22, a source close to the club confirmed.
Upon being contacted by MyKhel, Gourab Roy, the Head of Media for Mohammedan SC, confirmed that the club has received an email from the AIFF outlining the fine.
“The enquiry has just started, and we will see,” Mr Roy said.
Earlier, Ayan Chatterjee, the Head of Content for Kerala Blasters, declined to comment specifically on any sanctions, referring to the club’s official statement on the matter.
Sunday’s incident was the latest in a series of incidents involving fan violence or hooliganism from Mohammedan SC fans.
In just this year, there were two incidents of unruly behaviour from fans of the Black and White Brigade that brought shame to Indian football. In a CFL match against East Bengal in September 2024, three fans were seen sporting dummy rifles while celebrating a goal. This shocking incident led to the police getting involved, eventually arresting those responsible.
In another incident in February, Black Panthers fans vandalised parts of the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium and hurled projectiles at the Real Kashmir players and fans. There was even a case of pitch invasion during the match after a penalty call went against Mohammedan SC. The incident led to the home club playing their next two matches behind closed doors.
However, it seems that fan violence continues to plague the historic football club, tarnishing its image as well as that of Indian football. It now remains to be seen what steps ISL takes to rectify this recurring problem.
