Mohun Bagan SG bounced back to winning ways with a thrilling 3-2 victory over NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) in a rematch of the Durand Cup final, where NEUFC had emerged victorious.
This win at the Salt Lake Stadium marked Mohun Bagan's first victory of the ISL 2024-25 season, lifting them to fourth place with four points, while NorthEast United remained in seventh with three points from two games.

The match got off to a frenetic start, with NEUFC drawing first blood in just the 5th minute. Mohammed Ali Bemammer unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box, courtesy of a clever assist from Alaaeddine Ajaraie.
The early setback seemed to spark Mohun Bagan into action, as they levelled the score five minutes later. Dimitri Petratos floated in a perfect cross from a set piece, and Dippendu Biswas rose highest to head it past Gurmeet Singh, making it 1-1.
Despite Mohun Bagan's dominance in possession, NEUFC quickly regained the lead. A lightning-fast counterattack in the 24th minute saw Alaaeddine finish off a well-executed move, with MS Jithin providing the assist. At halftime, the visitors held a slender 2-1 lead, frustrating the Mariners with their clinical counter-attacking play.
The second half saw Mohun Bagan pushing relentlessly for an equalizer, and it finally came in the 61st minute. Subhasish Bose was on hand to slot the ball home after a goal-line save by NEUFC's goalkeeper, bringing the home crowd back to life at the Salt Lake Stadium.
As the game neared its conclusion, Mohun Bagan found the winning goal in the 87th minute. Sahal Abdul Samad, who had come on as a substitute, made an instant impact with a perfectly weighted square pass to Jason Cummings. The Australian striker made no mistake, smashing the ball into the net with his left foot to seal the 3-2 victory.
