Mohun Bagan Super Giant clinched their third victory of the season in a captivating showdown at Kolkata's Yuba Bharati Krirangan as they outperformed their traditional rivals, East Bengal on Saturday (October 19).
Goals from Jamie Maclaren and Dimitri Petratos was enough for the Mariners as they moved up to 2nd in the ISL points table with yet another Kolkata derby triumph.

The first significant opportunity emerged for Maclaren at the 18th minute, thanks to Greg Stewart's precise cross; however, East Bengal's goalkeeper, Prabhsukhan Gill, made a remarkable save.
Despite an early goal disallowed for offside against Manvir Singh, Mohun Bagan Super Giant sustained their attacking intensity. Their efforts were rewarded in the 41st minute when Manvir Singh's cross found Maclaren, who scored the opening goal. The Mariners continued to dominate the second half, maintaining possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.
East Bengal failed to create anything significant going forward and were guilty of playing too passive. The second half lost intensity but the Mariners were visibly dominant. Liston Colaco came close a couple of times but failed to extend Mohun Bagan's lead. The important second goal came through Dimitri Petratos, who scored from the spot after being fouled by Prabhsukan Gill in the box.
Greg Stewart, the Scottish midfielder, was instrumental for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, creating multiple scoring chances and showcasing his prowess in midfield. He was rightfully named the player of the match for his outstanding performance, which included completing 31 of his 35 attempted passes and delivering eight crosses.
East Bengal, with their defeat, have now lost their first five league matches this season. After Carles Cuadrat's dismissal, new coach Oscar Bruzon was at the dugout for the Red and Gold brigade after arriving just 15 hours earlier in the country.
Looking ahead, East Bengal FC is set to travel to Bhubaneswar on October 22, hoping to secure their first win of the season against Odisha FC. Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face Hyderabad FC away from home on October 30, aiming to continue their winning streak.
