ISL 2025-26: A 10-man Punjab FC produced a resilient performance to hold FC Goa to a 1-1 draw in the Indian Super League 2025-26 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday, March 16.
The result saw FC Goa extend its unbeaten run and move to fourth in the standings with nine points, while Punjab FC sits eighth with five points. FC Goa's Dejan Dražić was adjudged Player of the Match. Speaking about the game in the post-match conference, head coach Panos highlighted the team's overall match performance.

Punjab FC head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis believed the red card shown to striker Nsungusi Effiong early in the second half proved to be the decisive moment in their 1-1 draw against FC Goa.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Dilmperis said the dismissal in the 47th minute significantly changed the momentum of the game.
"The red card took the game away from us," he said. "There was no Goa in the first half. If we didn't have the red card, we could have scored two more goals."
Punjab took the lead before halftime through Effiong, but the striker was later sent off after an altercation with Goa defender Pol Moreno. The decision left Punjab with ten men for the majority of the second half and allowed Goa to fight their way back into the match.
When asked whether he believed the red card was the correct decision, Dilmperis admitted he had not seen the incident clearly from the touchline.
"Honestly, I have no idea because I didn't see the exact moment. If he made that move according to the rules, then it's a fair red card," he said, while also questioning some of the refereeing decisions during the match, including the amount of stoppage time added in the first half.
The coach also addressed concerns about coping without Effiong, who is the team's leading goal scorer and will now miss the next match due to suspension.
"We'll see," Dilmperis said. "We have many injured players at the moment. Pablo is also injured with a hamstring issue, so we have to refresh the team. Maybe fresh players and fresh legs will come in and help."
Reflecting on Punjab's recent performances, Dilmperis expressed frustration that his side had played well in several matches but failed to secure the results they deserved.
"In the last few games we have played well - even against Jamshedpur and Bengaluru - but strange things keep happening," he said. "We have to work harder, stay more focused and be mentally stronger."
Despite the disappointment, the coach acknowledged some positives from the match, particularly the team's strong first-half performance and the effort shown by the players after being reduced to ten men.
"The first half was excellent football from us," he said. "There was no Goa on the pitch. Even with nine players defending later, the team fought hard."
Punjab FC will now shift their focus to their upcoming away clash against Kerala Blasters FC in Kochi as they look to return to winning ways.
