ISL 2026-27 Broadcast: Indian Super League Clubs still mulling over TV Rights ahead of October 10 kickoff

The Indian Super League is less than six weeks away from its proposed October 10 start, but one of the biggest questions surrounding the 2026-27 season remains unanswered: the broadcasting rights.

The ISL clubs are yet to receive a concrete financial offer from a broadcaster for the upcoming campaign, leaving the league's broadcast arrangements unresolved. The uncertainty comes at a particularly important time, with the ISL entering its first season under a club-led commercial model. The clubs now control the league's commercial rights, while the All India Football Federation retains administrative and regulatory oversight.

The AIFF and the clubs had opened a formal bidding process for the 2026-27 media rights in July, with separate packages covering media rights with and without live-production responsibilities. The deadline for bids was August 8, with technical and commercial bids scheduled to be opened on August 10.

ISL 2026-27: Who are the Broadcasting Contenders?

However, the process has not yet resulted in a broadcast agreement that has been publicly confirmed.

FanCode remains in the picture after holding the exclusive global broadcast rights for the truncated 2025-26 season. The platform had secured those rights for ₹8.62 crore before sublicensing television coverage to Sony Sports Network.

ZEE has also remained part of the discussions surrounding the rights, although reports about the extent of its interest have varied. Sony Sports had previously expressed interest as well, but there has been no confirmed deal for the new season.

That has left YouTube as a potentially serious alternative. A direct streaming model would allow the clubs to maximise accessibility, build their own digital audiences and, crucially, obtain a clearer picture of the ISL's genuine organic following.

Why YouTube Streaming can be an Issue

A season streamed primarily through YouTube could provide valuable audience data, but it would not necessarily deliver the guaranteed commercial returns that clubs need.

Several ISL sides are already operating in a difficult financial environment, making it difficult for them to sacrifice immediate broadcast revenue simply to establish the league's long-term digital value.

The stakes are therefore considerably higher than simply deciding between television and streaming. The clubs are effectively trying to determine what the ISL is worth in the current Indian sports market. A potential deal is expected soon, as we await the full-fledged ISL season to start.
