ISL 2026-27: FC Goa Head Coach Gouramangi Singh calls for Control as Gaurs take on Chennaiyin FC

FC Goa are preparing to begin their Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 campaign against Chennaiyin FC at home on Saturday, October 10, with the Gaurs determined to start the season strongly and maintain their established playing identity.

Speaking ahead of the season opener, the FC Goa head coach Gouramangi Singh emphasised the importance of controlling games, remaining competitive throughout the campaign and maintaining the right mentality against a challenging opponent.

"FC Goa has a clear identity that we always want to compete, remain competitive through the season, and nothing changes there. The club has an identity, and we want to control as much as possible, more than the opponent, to give ourselves the best chance to win the game," Singh said at the pre-match press conference.

The coach acknowledged that Chennaiyin FC would pose a challenge in the opening fixture, stressing the need for concentration and a positive approach from the very beginning.

"We want to start strong, with the right mentality and high concentration from the very beginning, because it's not going to be easy. Chennai is a good team and a good opponent. It's the first game, and we are all looking forward to it," he added.

With the new season getting underway, FC Goa will look to make the most of their home advantage. The Gaurs finished 7th last season.

Sandesh Jhingan Emphasises Collective Effort

Defender Sandesh Jhingan also highlighted the importance of teamwork and the role of the head coach in shaping the team's tactical approach.

According to Jhingan, success depends on everyone within the squad working together and committing to the same system and objectives.

"At the end of the day, the tactical part, the system, everything comes from the head coach. It's a collective thing, and I've learned in life that when everyone is involved in something that is going to bring success, there are more chances for the team to succeed."

Jhingan's comments underline the importance of collective responsibility as FC Goa prepare for a demanding league campaign.

FC Goa Aim For Strong ISL Start

The Gaurs will enter the new season looking to remain competitive and build momentum from their opening fixture. Their clash against Chennaiyin FC offers an early test of the team's preparation, tactical discipline and ability to execute the head coach's philosophy.

The ISL 2026-27 season features 13 clubs, with FC Goa among the sides aiming to challenge for honours in the new campaign. Saturday's encounter against Chennaiyin FC will provide the first indication of how effectively the Gaurs can put their preparations into practice.
