ISL 2026-27: Goa Gets Two ISL clubs First Time in History as Churchill Brothers Join FC Goa

The Indian Super League is back, and as the ISL 2026-27 commences today (October 10), the season brings a new breeze of expectations for the fans in Goa.

Goa, one of India's footballing powerhouses, will have two clubs competing in the Indian Super League (ISL) for the first time in the 2026-27 season, with Churchill Brothers joining FC Goa in the country's top-tier football competition.

The development marks a significant moment for Goan football, which has a long history of producing talented players and competitive clubs. While FC Goa have been an established presence in the ISL since its inception in 2014, Churchill Brothers' entry brings another historic Goan institution into the league.

Churchill Brothers secured their place in the competition following Tata Steel's transfer of its equity shares in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited to the Goan club. The transaction, announced on August 14, included the transfer of Jamshedpur FC's ISL sporting licence, 12 players and two coaches.

The arrangement ensured continuity for the existing Jamshedpur FC playing and coaching personnel while allowing Churchill Brothers to enter the ISL.

FC Goa and Churchill Brothers: A New Goan Rivalry

FC Goa have established themselves as one of the prominent clubs in Indian football, regularly competing for major honours and developing players for the national team. The Gaurs play their home matches at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao.

Churchill Brothers, meanwhile, have a distinguished history in Indian football, having won the I-League twice and the Durand Cup on multiple occasions. Their arrival in the ISL provides the club with an opportunity to compete against India's leading sides on a bigger stage.

Both clubs will play their home matches in Goa, with Fatorda Stadium featuring prominently in the opening phase of the season.

The two teams are scheduled to meet on December 13, 2026, in what will be the first ISL encounter between them. The fixture is expected to be a major occasion for local supporters, although the intensity of the rivalry will develop as the teams build their respective ISL histories.

What Does It Mean For Goan Football?

Having two ISL clubs could increase the region's visibility, strengthen local football culture and create more opportunities for Goan players to compete at the highest domestic level.

Although the Gaurs have made a big mark for themselves in the last decade or so, Churchill are the old guard in the tapestry of Indian football. Churchill Brothers' presence also gives the league a new regional storyline, alongside established rivalries involving clubs from Kolkata, Kerala and other football centres.

However, the challenge for both clubs will be to translate their regional support and footballing heritage into sustained performances, as the new season will not only be a cause for celebration, but a test as well.
