No Subscription Needed: ISL 2026-27 Is Coming To YouTube

The Indian Super League will have a significantly different broadcast and streaming setup for the 2026-27 season, with all 163 matches set to be streamed live and free on YouTube.

The new arrangement gives Indian football fans three ways to follow the ISL: free digital streaming on YouTube, television coverage on Sony Sports Network and subscription-based streaming of every match on SonyLIV.

The deal also expands the league's international digital reach, with YouTube set to stream the ISL globally.

Where Can You Watch ISL 2026-27?

The 2026-27 season will be available across three platforms in India:

Platform Coverage Cost
YouTube All 163 ISL matches live Free
Sony Sports Network More than 80 matches on TV TV platform
SonyLIV All 163 matches live Subscription

The biggest change is YouTube's involvement. Fans will no longer need a paid digital subscription to watch the entire ISL season online.

SonyLIV will continue to offer the complete 163-match schedule as part of its subscription service, while Sony Sports Network will provide television coverage of more than 80 matches.

Why Is YouTube Streaming the Entire ISL for Free?

The partnership is designed to remove the subscription barrier for digital viewers and make the ISL more accessible to a larger audience.

The league's distribution strategy is increasingly focused on reaching fans wherever they choose to consume football, rather than relying on a single broadcast or streaming platform.

ISL CEO Karan Yadav said the objective was to make the competition "the most accessible league in the country" by being present across both digital and broadcast platforms.

The YouTube partnership will also extend beyond live matches, with the league planning to use the platform for highlights, Shorts, post-match interviews, tactical analysis, behind-the-scenes footage and other ISL content.

What Are Sony's ISL Rights?

Sony Sports Network has secured the television rights for the 2026-27 season and will broadcast more than 80 matches.

SonyLIV, meanwhile, will carry all 163 matches digitally as part of its subscription offering.

The arrangement marks Sony's return as the ISL's television broadcaster after FanCode streamed the previous season.

The latest rights process reportedly attracted interest from Google, YouTube, Zee and Sony Sports, with Zee and Sony emerging as the final contenders. Sony ultimately secured the television and SonyLIV rights, while YouTube was brought in as the free digital streaming partner.

The financial terms of the arrangement have not been disclosed.

Is ISL 2026-27 Free to Watch?

Yes. Every one of the 163 ISL matches will be available to watch live for free on YouTube.

Fans who prefer television can watch more than 80 matches on Sony Sports Network, while those who already have a SonyLIV subscription can watch the complete season there.

This effectively creates three different viewing options: free digital access, traditional television and paid premium streaming.

Why Is the YouTube Deal Important for Indian Football?

The move could substantially expand the ISL's digital audience by making every match available without a subscription.

The league says India's connected-TV audience has grown 23 per cent year-on-year to 166 million monthly viewers, while YouTube's connected-TV device-hours in India have increased 77 per cent over the past two years.

That gives the ISL an opportunity to reach viewers who may not otherwise pay for a dedicated sports streaming service.

YouTube's international availability is also significant, as the platform will stream the league outside India, potentially giving the ISL a wider global digital footprint.

What Is New About the ISL 2026-27 Season?

The 2026-27 season will feature 13 teams and 163 matches.

The first phase runs from October 10, 2026 to January 17, 2027 and consists of 78 matches. The league has adopted a weekend-heavy schedule for this phase, with 53 games scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

The season will also expand the competition's geographical footprint.

Churchill Brothers and FC Goa will contest the first-ever ISL Goa Derby, while Imphal will host its first ISL fixture when NorthEast United FC take on Sporting Club Delhi at the Khuman Lampak Stadium on November 24.

What Does the New ISL Broadcast Deal Mean for Fans?

The key change is simple: watching the ISL online no longer requires a subscription.

YouTube will carry every match for free, SonyLIV will provide the full season for subscribers, and Sony Sports Network will offer television coverage of more than half of the league's matches.

For the ISL, the arrangement combines the reach of a global digital platform with established television and subscription streaming services.

With all 163 matches available free on YouTube, the 2026-27 season will begin with the league's most accessible digital viewing arrangement yet.
