ISL: Chennaiyin FC defender Ryan Edwards extends contract till 2024-25 Season

Chennaiyin FC has confirmed that Ryan Edwards will remain with the club until 2025, following a contract renewal at the club.

This agreement marks a significant moment for the club, as Edwards becomes the second foreign player to be retained for such an extended period in the past four years, following Rafael Crivellaro.

Edwards has made a notable impact with 25 appearances, contributing two goals and an assist as the Marina Machans reached the playoffs.

Edwards' leadership and dedication have not gone unnoticed, especially his influence on younger Indian players and his commitment on the field.

His ability to inspire and lead by example has been a key factor in his popularity among fans and teammates alike. Owen Coyle expressed his enthusiasm for Edwards' extension, highlighting his crucial role within the team and said it is one of the biggest signings for next season.

"Ryan's extension is already one of the biggest signings for the upcoming season. It was important that we kept someone who knows what we're doing at this club and where we want to take it. What often goes unnoticed as well is that he's loved by everyone at the club and the boys look to him as the leadership figure in the dressing room. I truly believe he can grow as a captain and a player at Chennaiyin," Coyle was quoted as saying by Chennaiyin FC.

Before joining Chennaiyin FC, Edwards played for Dundee United in Scotland, where he had an impressive tenure, making 112 appearances and scoring eight goals over three seasons. His experience and performance have been invaluable to his current club, especially in his leadership roles.

Reflecting on his extended stay, Edwards shared his eagerness for the upcoming season and his ambition to lead Chennaiyin FC to success, emphasizing his goal of winning silverware.

"I'm looking forward to another season in ISL and after a good first step in qualifying for the playoffs, hopefully this time I can help lead the team towards winning some silverware," Edwards said.

With an experienced campaigner like Ryan Edwards at the helm, Chennaiyin FC will be aiming to reach greater heights next season.
