ISL Match Result: Mohun Bagan were handed their first defeat of the season when Mumbai City FC defeated them 2-1 in an ill-tempered affair that saw as many as seven red cards at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai on Wednesday (December 20).
Bipin Singh scored the winning goal for Mumbai City FC in the 73rd minute after he set up Greg Stewart for the first goal of the night in the 44th minute of the match. The goals cancelled the lead Jason Cummings gave to Mohun Bagan in the 25th minute as the visitors took advantage of Akash Mishra's red card in the 14th minute.

Bipin Singh's goal came after Mohun Bagan saw back-to-back red cards to Asish Rai (53') and Liston Colaco (57'), with the latter also making physical contact with the referee during an argument. Greg Stewart later saw his second yellow card for diving inside the box at the 88th minute while replays confirmed contact by Anirudh Thapa.
The match was an end-to-end contest, and Juan Ferrando's team got off to a fast start by taking advantage of Mumbai City FC fullback Akash Mishra's red card for a challenge on Manvir Singh in the thirteenth minute.
The Mariners took advantage of their numerical advantage, as Liston Colaco raced forward to receive a pass from Subhasish Bose on the left flank. This set up an assist for Cummings, who easily beat Rostyn Griffiths to put the ball in the net in the 25th minute.
However, the home team pulled together, and they were helped by dynamic winger Bipin Singh, who played in advanced areas on the left wing. Bipin, 28, who had given the Islanders the lead in the ninetieth minute against the same opponents in the ISL 2020-21 final, lobbed in an incredibly impressive cross for Greg Stewart on the far post.
The Scotsman who nodded the ball past Vishal Kaith to send Petr Kratky's team into halftime level on scoresheet. However, the Mariners appeared rather bewildered during the second half of the match, when Asish Rai was first sent off for a foul on Jorge Pereyra Diaz in the 54th minute.
Three minutes later Subhasish Bose made a similar tackle on Valpuia and was shown a yellow card. Liston Colaco got into an argument with the referee over the card and was instantly shown a red card as he lost his cool and made the mistake of pusing the referee.
Mumbai City FC forwards now had more flexibility, and Bipin started using it by playing in different open spots all around the front line. One such instance was in the 73rd minute when he controlled the ball on the right flank and produced an incredible shot from outside the boot that deflected off Anirudh Thapa and ended up drilling the ball into the back of the net.
After that, Mumbai City FC took control of the game. Stewart displayed some deft skill within the 18-yard box, but things quickly turned south in the 88th minute amid a tense scenario in the penalty area, and he was given a second yellow card.
Although they were able to hold onto the lead, the home team suffered yet another setback following the game. After receiving his second yellow card, Vikram Pratap Singh was removed from the game. In addition, Mohun Bagan SG defender Hector Yuste and Mumbai City FC captain Rahul Bheke received straight red cards for getting into violent disputes after the final whistle.
