ISL Points Table 2024-25: Mumbai City FC secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over East Bengal FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Monday night.

Despite conceding 55% possession, the Islanders were more clinical in attack, recording eight shots on target and climbing from seventh to fifth in the ISL standings.

The visitors dominated the first half, creating relentless pressure in the final third. Nikolaos Karelis came close in the 28th minute, but his header was blocked on the goal line. Mumbai broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a superb play from Brandon Fernandes, whose through-ball found Lallianzuala Chhangte. The attacker slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner with precision. Karelis doubled Mumbai's lead just before halftime, converting a rebound after Prabhsukhan Singh Gill saved his initial effort.

East Bengal came alive in the second half. Naorem Mahesh Singh's attacking drive led to an own goal by Sahil Panwar in the 66th minute. The hosts leveled in the 83rd minute when Hector Yuste's clever header set up David Lalhlansanga for a composed finish.

However, Mumbai City responded swiftly. In the 87th minute, Nathan Rodrigues delivered a pinpoint pass to Karelis, who calmly netted the winner to seal the Islanders' victory.

With this result, Mumbai continue their playoff push, while East Bengal will look to bounce back from a spirited but ultimately disappointing performance.

The equation is getting tougher for the Red and Gold Brigade as they lose points. They need to pull their socks up and try to eke out as many wins as possible.
