Chennai, July 26: Two-time champions Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday (July 26) announced their second foreign player recruit of the season after onboarding Scottish centre-forward Connor Shields ahead of Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24.
Shields follows Australian forward Jordan Murray into the club as the second overseas arrival. The 25-year-old forward joins the Marina Machans from Scottish club Motherwell FC. Shields has worked with new Chennaiyin FC coach Owen Coyle at Queens Park FC on loan in the 2022/23 season.

The Scot, who brings with him vast experience from the Scottish and English leagues, is delighted to have made the move to Chennaiyin FC and added that he can't wait to get started in the upcomiing challenge in India.
"I am delighted to have joined Chennaiyin FC. I can't wait to move to India and get started with this exciting new challenge ahead," Shields was quoted as saying in a release.
Shields, who has most spent his time playing for various Scottish clubs, has also represented six-time English Champions Sunderland AFC at youth level for two seasons. At Queens Park FC, Shields scored five goals and assisted four in 40 appearances in the 2022/23 season.
Chennaiyin FC have been on a rebuild since the close season, having brought back Coyle for the second stint and bringing in several players to fill the void left by the likes of Anirudh Thapa, who has joined Mohun Bagan Super Giants, leaving the Marina Machans after a near seven-year stint.
The Marina Machans have so far roped in goalkeeper Prateek Kumar Singh, defenders Sachu Sibu, Bijay Chhetri and Ankit Mukherjee as well as midfielder Sweden Fernandes, and forwards Farukh Choudhary and Irfan Yadwad.
