Italian giants target Manchester United defender Darmian

According to reports, Serie A giants like Juventus, Roma and Napoli all are monitoring his situation who all want to strengthen at the back this summer.

Rome, November 24: Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian could make a switch to his homeland in the after reports emerged that the defender is a potential target of three Serie A clubs.

Darmian joined United in 2015 under then manager Louis Van Gaal for £12.7million from Torino after a superb season with the Italian side, however, since his arrival in England, things have not gone exactly to plan for the Italy international.

The Italian made a decent start to his United career winning Club's player of the month in the first two months and started 24 league games in his first season. However, his form dipped in the second half of the season and his shaky display on the field eventually made him a fringe player in the United squad.

In Mourinho's two seasons at United, the 27-year-old has hardly got to start and has mostly been used as a sporadic player. So far this season, he has played less than 400 minutes of first-team football, and he also became the subject of harsh criticism following his poor outing in all the games he has played.

United are reportedly in talks to sign more fullbacks at the end of the season which means Darmian could fall further down the pecking order. Thus to have more game time under his belt, the full-back has now reportedly set his sights on a return to Italy and according to reports, Serie A giants like Juventus, Roma and Napoli all are monitoring his situation who all want to strengthen at the back this summer.

Juventus are on the look out for a long-term replacement for current right back Stephen Leichsteiner, whose contract in Turin expires next June whereas Sarri's team are also looking for a backup option for Faouzi Ghoulam who will miss a huge portion of the season after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Apart from them, Roma are also said to be in the hunt for a fullback in the winter and with the new sporting director, Monchi said to have tried for Darmian in the last transfer window and failed, the move now looks more likely.
