Ivan Juric has departed as Southampton's manager after their 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, confirming their relegation from the Premier League. This defeat left them at the bottom with only 10 points from 31 games. They need a point from the remaining seven matches to avoid setting a new record for the lowest points total in Premier League history.
Southampton's relegation was confirmed with seven games left, marking the earliest any team has faced such a fate in Premier League history. Juric took over on 21 December, following Russell Martin's dismissal when the club had just five points from 16 matches. The Croatian manager struggled to improve their fortunes.

During Juric's tenure, Southampton managed only four points in 14 matches, averaging 0.29 points per game. This is the lowest average for any manager who has overseen at least ten Premier League games. The Saints are now one of three teams to have lost 25 of their first 31 games in a season, alongside Sunderland (2005-06) and Sheffield United (2020-21).
The club expressed gratitude towards fans for their unwavering support during this challenging season. "We remain incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of our fans," read a club statement. "Their continued dedication and passion, despite what has been a very tough season, is remarkable and is appreciated by everyone at the club."
Simon Rusk will step in as interim manager while Southampton searches for Juric's successor. He previously led them to a goalless draw against Fulham on 22 December. Adam Lallana will assist Rusk during this interim period.
The Saints are set to face Aston Villa at home on Saturday before travelling to West Ham United the following week. Despite relegation challenges, they aim to restore pride among supporters through future performances.
