Ivan Provedel Joins Inter On Three-Year Deal To Challenge For No. 1

Inter have added depth in goal by signing Ivan Provedel from Lazio in a 3m deal. The 32-year-old agrees a three-year contract with Inter, the club Provedel supported as a child. Provedel is set to challenge Josep Martinez after Yann Sommer left.

Provedel's recent shoulder injury may delay integration into Inter's plans. Provedel required surgery after suffering the problem in March, ending last season early. Reports suggested Provedel might not return until August, so Inter's match against Monza could suffer.

Provedel joined Lazio in August 2022 and quickly became first-choice goalkeeper across competitions. Provedel played 146 matches for Lazio in all tournaments, keeping 53 clean sheets. In Serie A last term, Provedel featured 27 times before injury stopped Provedel's campaign.

Provedel delivered a notable Champions League moment during Lazio's 2023-24 campaign. In September 2023, Provedel scored a headed 95th-minute equaliser against Atletico Madrid, earning a 1-1 draw. That was Provedel's second career goal and only the competition's second open-play goalkeeper strike. The first came from Sinan Bolat for Standard Liege against AZ in 2009.

Inter rely on a duel between Provedel and Josep Martinez to replace Yann Sommer. Provedel's recovery timetable will decide who starts Inter's campaign. Whatever the outcome, Inter gain a goalkeeper with Serie A experience and Champions League exposure.
