James Milner explains why he handed over penalty duties to Mohamed Salah

London, Feb 2: Liverpool came back to winning ways again in their last game against Huddersfield Town as they crushed the newly promoted side 3-0, with goals from Can, Firmino and Salah.

However, the match caught headlines for a different reason as during the last goal, a penalty which Salah converted, the Kops topscorer somehow involved with a verbal exchange with midfielder James Milner.

James Milner is Liverpool's go-to penalty taker when he's on the pitch and after the penalty call he went up to collect the ball to take the position. However, the Egyptian attacker grabbed the ball first under his arm and was seen talking to Milner while Captain Jordan Henderson was about to intervene but Milner eventually walked away.

Following the match, there has been some fuss about the incident but now the involved player Milner has suggested he was happy to pass on penalty duties to top scorer Mohamed Salah and as soon as the team propels he does not have any problem.

Milner told Liverpoolfc.com: “It doesn’t matter to me as long as it ends up in the back of the net.

“Mo said he wanted it and he was confident so I trust him.”

On the other hand, manager Klopp has taken the blame for the incident and suggested he had not given strong instruction regarding the take but he is happy to see the players themselves getting into the discussions and having a comfortable completion.

Klopp said: "I wanted it exactly like that. I love when players discuss on the pitch.

"It’s all my fault, I thought it was clear (who was taking it) but obviously I left some space for interpretation. I was not 100% clear!

"At the end, the ball is in which we didn’t have too often this season - so yippee! Maybe Mo will qualify for the next one as well.

"I thought it was clear, but they discussed it and it’s all good. It’s better that you have two or three who want to take it than nobody to take it. The discussion was still OK."

Liverpool are currently third in the league table and will face fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur next who are just two points adrift in a crunch tie as the battle for top-four continues to heat up.
