Japan's football team showcased their prowess by defeating Indonesia 6-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Japan ended their campaign on a high note, finishing seven points ahead of Australia in Group C. Daichi Kamada was instrumental, scoring twice and leading the charge for Japan's emphatic victory.
The match began with Kamada heading Shunsuke Mito’s cross past Emil Audero after just 15 minutes. Takefusa Kubo soon doubled the lead, and later assisted Kamada for his second goal. Kamada's impressive run ended with a precise shot into the net, further solidifying Japan's lead.

Ryoya Morishita added to the scoreline with a volley shortly after halftime. Shuto Machino then flicked another goal in before Mao Hosoya completed the rout in the 80th minute. Hosoya capitalised on Kota Tawaratsumida's efforts to fire into the net from close range.
In Group B, South Korea also impressed by defeating Kuwait 4-0 at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Like Japan, they had already secured their spot in the World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Jeon Jin-Woo opened the scoring with a header from Hwang In-Beom’s corner.
After halftime, Lee Kang-In doubled South Korea’s advantage with a precise shot into the bottom-right corner. Oh Hyeon-Gyu made it three goals shortly after by converting Bae Jun-Ho’s header. Lee Jae-Sung sealed Kuwait’s fate by capitalising on a defensive error late in the game.
Takefusa Kubo emerged as a key player for Japan against Indonesia. He created six chances and contributed two assists alongside his goal. Only Junnosuke Suzuki surpassed him in tackles won during this match. Japan's xG was an impressive 3.99 from 22 shots while preventing any attempts from Indonesia.
Throughout their qualifying journey, Japan scored 30 goals—ten more than any other team in their group stage round across all groups. This performance underscores their attacking strength and defensive solidity as they prepare for future challenges on the world stage.
