Joao Pedro In The World Class Company Of Haaland, Kane And Mbappe, Says Rosenior

Liam Rosenior states Joao Pedro belongs with Europe’s elite forwards alongside Haaland, Kane and Mbappe, after Chelsea's 4-1 victory over Aston Villa. Pedro's 17 goals this season, his non-penalty tally, and his age underline his potential to reach top-tier status, reinforcing his importance to Chelsea's attack.

Joao Pedro extended a strong scoring run with a hat-trick in Chelsea's 4-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa, pushing the Brazilian to 17 goals in all competitions since the Club World Cup and placing the forward among the most efficient finishers across Europe's top five leagues this season.

Fourteen of those goals have arrived in league play, all from open play rather than penalties, with only Erling Haaland, on 19 non-penalty Premier League goals, ahead of the Chelsea forward in that specific metric during the current campaign.

Joao Pedro in World Class Company

Liam Rosenior has moved Joao Pedro into the conversation with Haaland, Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe, stating that the Chelsea forward is performing at the highest level of the game and deserves to be discussed alongside the established elite in European football.

Asked directly whether Joao Pedro is operating on the same plane as that trio, Rosenior responded: "Joao is in that category now. In the two months I've been here, he has consistently shown he is a worldclass striker. I talk about my players; it's disrespectful to Erling to compare them. I don't know Erling very well, but from the outside he looks a magnificent, worldclass striker. I wouldn't swap Joao for anyone at this moment he is showing all the qualities and attributes I want to see. The great thing for Joao is his age he can still improve, and I've already noticed several areas where he can get better. But the level he's operating at now is world-class, and it's my job, the club's job and his job to keep him there."

Across Europe's top five leagues, Joao Pedro's 17-goal total ranks joint-10th this season, and the underlying data also shows strong output, with the Chelsea forward converting 24.3% of attempts and maintaining a shooting accuracy of 58.5% after hitting the target with 31 of 70 shots in all competitions.

Player Club Total goals Expected goals (xG) Minutes per goal Shot conversion rate Shooting accuracy Total shots Non-penalty league goals
Joao Pedro Chelsea 17 15.9 162.4 24.3% 58.5% 70 14
Erling Haaland Manchester City 29 27.1 106.8 22.3% - 130 19*
Harry Kane Bayern Munich 45 - 66.7 30.6% 76.5% - 20*
Kylian Mbappe Real Madrid 38 - 74.8 - - 163 15*

*Non-penalty goals in league play.

Joao Pedro has slightly outperformed his expected goals figure, turning 15.9 xG into 17 goals, an overperformance of 1.1 xG, while averaging one goal every 162.4 minutes for Chelsea in all competitions, showing that the forward converts chances at a rate that compares well with leading names.

Joao Pedro world-class striker context among Haaland, Kane, Mbappe

Haaland still sets the standard in pure volume with 29 goals from 27.1 xG for Manchester City across all tournaments and averages a goal every 106.8 minutes, although the Norway international's shot conversion rate, at 22.3%, sits slightly lower than Joao Pedro's while coming from a far higher total of 130 efforts.

Kane leads all players in Europe's top five leagues this season with 45 goals for Bayern Munich in the 2025-26 campaign, averaging a goal every 66.7 minutes in all competitions, and the England forward also posts a 30.6% shot conversion rate and 76.5% shooting accuracy, figures which rank among the strongest in the continent.

Mbappe stands on 38 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions, having taken 163 shots, the highest number among the four forwards, and the France international scores on average every 74.8 minutes, adding a further benchmark as Joao Pedro's output begins to be compared regularly with the established attacking stars.

Rosenior's public stance on Joao Pedro, supported by both open-play league goals and efficiency indicators, places the Chelsea forward firmly within the current group of elite strikers, while also underlining that age and room for improvement remain important factors as club and player look to maintain this level over a longer period.
