Jordan Henderson has made a return to the Premier League, joining Brentford on a two-year deal. The England midfielder arrives at the Gtech Community Stadium after leaving Ajax this summer. Henderson began his Premier League journey with Sunderland at 18 before moving to Liverpool in 2011. He captained Liverpool from 2015, winning eight trophies, including the Champions League and Premier League.
Henderson's time in English football saw him play 431 matches, scoring 33 goals and providing 53 assists. He also earned 84 caps for England and was named England Senior Men's Player of the Year in 2019. His leadership qualities are expected to fill the gap left by Christian Norgaard, who moved to Arsenal earlier in the transfer window.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews expressed enthusiasm about Henderson's arrival. "When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision," he said. Andrews highlighted Henderson's fitness and motivation as key factors for his signing. "He's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game," Andrews added.
The departure of experienced players like Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken, and Ben Mee left a void at Brentford. Andrews believes Henderson's leadership will be crucial for the team. "What Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years," he noted.
Brentford kicks off their 2025-26 season against Nottingham Forest on August 17. Henderson will face his former club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light two weeks later. On October 25, he will play against Liverpool for the first time since leaving Anfield when Brentford hosts Arne Slot's team.
Henderson spent one season with Al-Ettifaq before joining Ajax in 2024. His extensive experience in top-flight football makes him a valuable asset for Brentford as they aim to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
The addition of Henderson is seen as a strategic move by Brentford to bolster their midfield with experience and leadership. His track record of success at Liverpool is expected to inspire his new teammates as they embark on another challenging Premier League campaign.
