'It Looks Really Bad': Jordan Henderson's World Cup Celebrations End in Hospital After Freak Accident

England's dramatic FIFA World Cup victory over Mexico ended on a worrying note after Jordan Henderson was rushed to hospital with a serious wrist injury sustained during the team's post-match celebrations at Estadio Azteca.

The veteran midfielder did not feature in England's thrilling 3-2 Round of 16 win but was injured after the final whistle while celebrating with supporters. England manager Thomas Tuchel later confirmed Henderson had been taken to hospital, raising fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday's quarter-final against Norway.

How Jordan Henderson suffered the injury after England beat Mexico

Henderson was celebrating alongside teammates in front of the travelling England supporters when he fell over the advertising boards surrounding the pitch.

Television footage showed the 36-year-old landing awkwardly before receiving medical treatment on the field. He was eventually stretchered away and later transported to hospital for further assessment.

According to reports, the incident occurred as England's players gathered in front of their fans for their customary post-match celebrations following one of the team's most memorable World Cup victories in recent years.

Thomas Tuchel provides worrying Jordan Henderson injury update

Speaking after the match, Tuchel admitted the injury appeared significant and confirmed Henderson would not travel back to England's training base with the rest of the squad.

"Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad."

The England manager later revealed Henderson had already been admitted to hospital.

"It's quite a serious injury and it doesn't fit the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital."

The Football Association confirmed Henderson will remain in Mexico City alongside a member of England's medical staff while the rest of the squad returns to Kansas City to begin preparations for the quarter-finals.

England's midfield concerns grow before Norway quarter-final

Although Henderson has played only six minutes during the tournament, his injury further reduces Thomas Tuchel's options as England prepare to face Norway.

The experienced midfielder became the first England men's player to appear at four FIFA World Cups when he came off the bench against Panama in the group stage, providing valuable leadership within the squad despite his limited minutes.

England will already be without defender Jarell Quansah after his red card against Mexico triggered an automatic suspension, while Reece James continues to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered earlier in the tournament.

England overcome adversity to book World Cup last-eight spot

Henderson's injury slightly overshadowed one of England's biggest wins under Tuchel.

Jude Bellingham scored twice to put England in control before Julián Quiñones reduced the deficit before half-time. Quansah's dismissal early in the second half left England to play more than 30 minutes with 10 men, but Harry Kane restored their two-goal cushion from the penalty spot before Raúl Jiménez converted from the spot to set up a tense finish.

England eventually held on for a 3-2 victory to reach the quarter-finals, where they will meet Norway.

Attention will now turn to Henderson's recovery, with England awaiting the full extent of the wrist injury after what was otherwise a memorable night at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
