Jordan Veretout has completed a permanent move from Marseille to Lyon in Ligue 1. The 31-year-old midfielder, who played 94 matches for Marseille over two years, has signed a two-year contract with Lyon. The transfer fee is reported to be €4 million (£3.3 million), potentially rising to €7 million (£5.9 million) with a 25% sell-on clause for future transfers.
Last season, Veretout made 46 appearances across all competitions for Marseille, contributing five goals and five assists. Notably, five of these goal involvements came in the Europa League. His passing accuracy was impressive, with 1,018 successful passes, only surpassed by Chancel Mbemba (1,202) and Leonardo Balerdi (1,399) in Ligue 1.

In addition to his passing skills, Veretout also demonstrated defensive prowess by winning 22 out of 38 tackles. His overall performance solidified his reputation as a reliable midfielder in the league.
Veretout becomes the tenth permanent signing under Lyon's manager Pierre Sage. He is expected to make his debut against Lens on September 15. This acquisition aims to bolster Lyon's midfield options as they look to improve their standing in Ligue 1.
On the international stage, Veretout has earned six caps for France since making his debut in 2021. He was also part of José Mourinho’s Roma squad that won the Europa Conference League during the 2022-23 season.
This move marks a significant step in Veretout's career as he joins Lyon with hopes of making an immediate impact. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how he integrates into his new team and contributes to their success.
