Jose Mourinho Hints At Aspiration For Future International Management Role In Football
Jose Mourinho has expressed interest in managing a national team in the future. After being dismissed by Roma in January 2024, he is considering a return to Serie A. During his tenure at Roma, Mourinho managed 138 matches, winning 68 of them, which translates to a win rate of 49.28%. His time at the club included leading them to victory in the Europa Conference League in 2022.
Mourinho's ambitions extend beyond club football. He desires to lead a national team in major tournaments like the European Championship or World Cup. "I want to play a European Championship or a World Cup and unite a country around a team, as I have already done many times with the clubs," he stated. This reflects his passion for football and its significance globally.

Despite his success, Mourinho faced challenges during his third season at Roma. A poor start with only one win in five Serie A games led to his contract termination. He remained unemployed until June when he joined Fenerbahce. However, he has struggled there too, with the team trailing Galatasaray by eight points in the Turkish Super Lig title race.
Mourinho has had an illustrious career with stints at Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Tottenham. He has won eight domestic titles and two Champions Leagues during this period. While he is open to returning to Serie A where he succeeded with Inter Milan, it is not his sole aspiration.
Reflecting on past decisions, Mourinho admitted some regrets regarding professional choices. "Many, if we talk about games," he said when asked about regrets. He mentioned declining Florentino Perez's advice to stay at Real Madrid as one such decision. "Mou, don't go now; you've done the tough part; now the best one starts," Perez had advised him.
Lessons from Past Experiences
Mourinho also reflected on his decision not to leave Roma immediately after losing the Europa League final in Budapest against Sevilla on penalties. "Not for [Anthony] Taylor's mess," he clarified but acknowledged it was a mistake not to depart sooner.
The seasoned manager continues watching Inter Milan but hasn't watched Roma since leaving. "I've never watched Roma play again, but I've watched Inter," he told Corriere dello Sport.
Mourinho's journey through various clubs showcases both triumphs and trials that have shaped his career path over the years.
