Jose Mourinho shares a big regret about Inter Miami star Lionel Messi

Jose Mourinho, renowned as one of the most successful managers in football history, has left a memorable mark on the game with his tactical prowess and trophy-laden career.

From Chelsea to Inter Milan, Real Madrid to Manchester United, Mourinho's managerial journey reads like a chronicle of triumphs, with one notable exception: Tottenham Hotspur, where he notably missed out on securing silverware.

Jose Mourinho shares a big regret about Inter Miami star Lionel Messi

Across his storied 24-year tenure, Mourinho has shaped the careers of footballing legends, guiding the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, and Frank Lampard to greatness. Yet, amidst the glittering array of stars he's mentored, there remains one glaring absence – Lionel Messi.

In a recent candid interview, Mourinho admitted that not having the opportunity to coach the Inter Miami star stands as a regret in his illustrious career. Despite facing Messi's brilliance from opposing dugouts and steering Ronaldo's path at Real Madrid, Mourinho never had the chance to harness Messi's prodigious talents within his squad.

So very recently when he was asked to name dream players he wished he could have managed, Messi's name stood out prominently, highlighting Mourinho's admiration for the Barcelona and PSG icon.

"A player I'd have liked to coach? For example, I never got to train Lionel Messi, but then nobody can train Messi. It is absurd to think you could coach him because he was born with everything and already knows everything," Mourinho said.

Now in a period of respite following his departure from Roma, Mourinho remains resolute in his desire to continue his managerial odyssey. While he has dismissed immediate prospects in Saudi Arabia, retirement is far from his thoughts. Instead, the prospect of a potential return to the touchline awaits, with tantalizing possibilities on the horizon.

For Mourinho, the allure of managing Messi at Inter Miami, should the opportunity arise, presents an enticing proposition. As speculation swirls around the future of Inter Miami's head coach, Gerardo 'Tata' Martino, Mourinho's name looms large as a potential successor. And it could be a dream come true moment for him surely.
