Jose Mourinho expressed sarcasm towards referee Clement Turpin after being sent off during Fenerbahce's draw with Manchester United. The match in Istanbul ended in a draw, with Youssef En-Nesyri scoring in the second half to equalise Christian Eriksen's earlier goal. Fenerbahce had a penalty appeal dismissed when Manuel Ugarte collided with Bright Osayi-Samuel, leading to Mourinho's dismissal for his reaction.
Mourinho later shared his thoughts on the incident and his interaction with Turpin. He told TNT Sports, "I watched the incident back, and I don't want to speak about it." He continued, "He told me something incredible. He told me that at the same time, he saw the action in the box and my behaviour. I congratulate him, it's incredible - his peripheral vision! He had one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on my behaviour on the bench that's why he's one of the best referees in the world!"

Despite the controversy, Mourinho praised his team's performance. Fenerbahce now has five points from their first three matches. "They got a point against us, not us against them," he stated. "We played amazingly. I told the players: 'if we play like this in the Turkish league, we will destroy every single team'."
Mourinho highlighted the challenges faced by his team due to injuries and missing players. In contrast to England's Premier League, where quality and intensity are higher, he noted that discussions often focus on absent players from teams like Manchester United. "You don't know how many of our players didn't play; we had injuries," he explained.
The former United manager emphasised how well his team performed despite these challenges. "We had to solve an amazing puzzle," he said. "My boys played an amazing match. We had a phenomenal performance." Notably, Fenerbahce's goalkeeper did not have to make any saves during the game.
Mourinho's comments reflect both frustration and admiration for his team's efforts under challenging circumstances. His sarcastic remarks about Turpin highlight ongoing tensions between managers and referees over decision-making during crucial matches.
