Jose Mourinho set for reassurance talks with Anthony Martial

The French international had been in great form from the left-hand side and Mourinho's decision to shift him to the right to accommodate Alexis Sanchez has come under severe criticism.

Bengaluru, February 13: Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is planning to sit down with Anthony Martial to give him assurances over his Manchester United future.

The French winger has seen his position on the left-hand side taken away by Alexis Sanchez in the last four matches.

The 22-year-old was shunted out to the right, before being dropped for Scott McTominay against Huddersfield two weeks ago.

The ex-Monaco ace was also played out-of-position on the right-hand side in United's 1-0 away loss to Newcastle on Sunday (February 11).

But Mourinho is now keen to ease the 22-year-old’s fears and affirm he is still in his future plans.

Martial is understood to be assessing his options and will wait and see how the season pans out.

The French international had been in great form from the left-hand side and Mourinho's decision to shift him to the right to accommodate Alexis Sanchez has come under severe criticism.

PSG are interested in landing Martial after losing out to the Red Devils when he joined from Monaco in 2015.

Arsenal also launched a bid for him as a possible makeweight in a deal for Alexis Sanchez in January but Mourinho rejected the proposal straight away and instead involved Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the deal.

Mourinho is adamant on keeping him for a long time and is eager to sit down with the Frenchman to resolve his fears.

Martial has scored eleven goals so far this season in 36 appearances from the left flank but has looked off-colour since the arrival of Sanchez.

He is out of contract at the end of the next campaign, but United have the option to extend by a further 12-months.

It is thought Mourinho is planning on bringing in a new right-sided attacker in the summer which might actually increase the problem with Martial as it is very hard to see Sanchez being pushed out of the first-team picture.
