Bengaluru, March 7: Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is a summer target for Manchester United, with the Spanish giants said to be ready to sell, according to reports.

The French international is regarded as one the best young defenders in Europe, despite the La Liga giants' disastrous season this time out.

Diario Gol report Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is willing to sell the 24-year-old valued at £54million to help generate funds to reshape Zidane’s squad this summer.

Jose Mourinho reportedly has doubts about defensive duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones with Victor Lindelof failing to impress since his move from Benfica last year.

It was Mourinho who convinced Varane to move to the Bernabeu from Lens in 2011, when it looked like he was on his way to United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He is a big fan of the Frenchman and is eager to work with him again and is ready to rekindle their relationship five years after leaving the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are also reportedly ready to offload Gareth Bale and Toni Kroos to fund moves for Eden Hazard and Robert Lewandowski.

Mourinho will be able to personally run the rule over potential summer targets when he joins Russia Today as a pundit for the World Cup.

Both Kroos and Bale are long-term United targets as well and the Portuguese also wants the duo especially Toni Kroos who is one of the best players in the world in the middle of the park.

Real Madrid are having a troublesome season in La Liga but are doing pretty well in the Champions League having knocked out mighty PSG in the round of 16.
