London, Sep 9: Jose Mourinho has criticised Academy prodigy, Andreas Pereira after the young Brazilian made the decision to leave Manchester United on loan for the Spanish side Valencia.
The 21-year-old chose to join the Spanish side on a season-long loan on the transfer deadline day despite having been included in the most part of United's pre-season campaign.
After initially looking set to be incorporated into the United first group, Pereira mostly thought that he would get the minutes in the upcoming season however after failing to make United's matchday squad for their opening three Premier League matches, the playmaker chooses to leave the club for the time being for more game time.
Before leaving the club Pereira signed a new contract with the club which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2019, however, manager Mourinho stated that he would have favoured the Brazilian at the club as he believes he should show the fighting spirit among a large group of players.
"Andreas Pereira was a personal decision that I don't agree with," Mourinho told reporters.
"A decision I don't think honestly is the best decision for him, a decision that disappoints me a little bit, because I think he has the potential to be here fighting for a position, for opportunities, and fighting to be a Manchester United player.
"I think his decision can be considered a decision of a young player who wants to play every weekend but can also be considered a decision by a young player that is not ready to fight for something difficult and it's difficult to play in the Manchester United midfield.
"You have to be ready to fight for a position and I am a bit disappointed that he left. But okay, it was his decision, I open the door for his decision, he has a long-term contract, we have the option to bring him back on January 1, so we have that situation under control.
"It is not a drama but is a decision that disappoints me a little bit."
Perreira last season also spent on loan at Granada and made a quick impression of himself where he played 35 matches, scoring five and assisting three. He could now start for Valencia in their match against Atletico Madrid on their home ground on Saturday.
