Bengaluru, December 18: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly told Daniel Sturridge that he can leave the club next month when the transfer window opens as he plans for life without the England striker.
The 28-year-old is ready to move to revive his World Cup hopes after struggling for regular games this season. Klopp has given him only five starts in the Premier League and an average return of three goals in all competitions has put his Three Lions place under severe threat.
The likes of Jamie Vardy and Tammy Abraham are ahead of him in the pecking order to support Tottenham ace Harry Kane.
Sturridge has not played for the Reds since coming on as a late sub in the 7-0 win over Spartak Moscow and is right now out with a minor hamstring injury.
Sturridge was a regular in the starting XI under previous Kop boss Brendan Rodgers but has gradually fallen out of favour under Klopp. Injuries played a key role in that as well.
Jurgen Klopp prefers to use Roberto Firmino as a false nine in most games thanks to his creativity, link-up play and excellent work rate.
The Brazilian has been scoring and assisting on a regular basis which has caused problems for Sturridge and the other Liverpool strikers.
Klopp gave Sturridge a few chances this season as he kept on rotating his squad amidst a congested fixture list but Sturridge hardly managed to impress.
Now he finds Dominic Solanke ahead of him in the pecking order and the best decision for his career would be to move in January and do enough to secure a place in Southgate's World Cup squad.
The former Manchester City and Chelsea could now look at a loan move abroad in the second half of the season, with Liverpool looking to get his £125,000-a-week wages covered.
