Juventus Triumphs 1-0 Against Lazio After Late Own Goal By Mario Gila

Mario Gila's late own goal secured a narrow 1-0 victory for Juventus over ten-man Lazio in Serie A. The match saw Lazio's Alessio Romagnoli sent off, impacting their defensive efforts.

Juventus secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Lazio in a Serie A match on Saturday, thanks to an own goal by Mario Gila. The decisive moment occurred in the 85th minute when Gila inadvertently redirected Juan Cabal's cross into his own net, leaving goalkeeper Ivan Provedel helpless. Lazio had been reduced to 10 men after Alessio Romagnoli was sent off for a last-man tackle on Pierre Kalulu.

Under Motta's guidance, Juventus have shown impressive defensive form, conceding just once in their first eight Serie A games. This marks their best defensive start to a league campaign, surpassing previous records from the 1966-67, 1986-87, 2004-05, and 2005-06 seasons. Such resilience has been pivotal in their current unbeaten run.

Juventus Wins 1-0 Against Lazio

The referee initially did not penalise Romagnoli's challenge as a foul. However, after a VAR review, Juventus were awarded a free-kick and Romagnoli received a red card. This decision significantly impacted the game, giving Juventus an advantage they capitalised on late in the match.

This win further solidifies Juventus' dominance over Lazio in Serie A history. They have now defeated Lazio 87 times in the competition, equalling their record against Inter Milan for most wins against a single opponent. Such historical success underscores Juventus' long-standing prowess in Italian football.

The victory places Juventus second in the league standings with 16 points. They are level with Napoli at the top and two points ahead of third-placed Inter Milan. Both Napoli and Inter have played one game less than Juventus.

Juventus' strong start under Motta is largely attributed to their solid defence. Their ability to maintain such defensive discipline has been crucial in securing points early in the season. As they continue this form, they remain strong contenders for the Serie A title.
