Juventus' manager, Thiago Motta, expressed deep disappointment following their Coppa Italia quarter-final exit against Empoli. The match ended in a penalty shootout defeat after a 1-1 draw, with Juventus' performance falling short of expectations. Youssef Maleh's first-half goal put Empoli ahead, and despite Khephren Thuram's equaliser, Juventus lost 4-2 on penalties.
Motta criticised his team's attitude during the post-match press conference. "Shame. I feel shame for what we saw in the first half and I hope my players feel the same," he stated. He admitted that perhaps he failed to convey the significance of the match and wearing the Juventus shirt. Dusan Vlahovic missed a crucial chance to secure victory in regular time and also failed to convert the opening penalty.

Empoli's journey to this stage has been remarkable. They were promoted from Serie B in 2021 and have now reached their first Coppa Italia semi-final since 2006-07. Despite their cup success, they struggle in Serie A, having gone 11 matches without a win, including a heavy 5-0 loss to Atalanta.
Kenan Yildiz also missed his penalty, which was saved by Empoli's goalkeeper Devis Vasquez. This allowed Luca Marianucci to score the decisive penalty, securing a memorable win for Empoli at Allianz Stadium. Motta urged his players to regroup and respect Juventus' legacy: "Now we have to start again, give everything in training, give everything to each other and respect the place and the history you are in."
Empoli will face Bologna in the semi-finals after previously defeating Fiorentina on penalties and Torino 2-1 earlier in the competition. Meanwhile, Inter will meet AC Milan in another Derby della Madonnina for the other semi-final clash.
Despite Thuram's skillful equaliser, it was not enough as Juventus faltered under pressure. Motta acknowledged their mistake cost them a spot in the semi-finals. The team must now focus on improving their form and mentality moving forward.
