Juventus Must Enhance Quality And Creativity Following Goalless Draw In Turin Derby

Juventus' manager, Luciano Spalletti, acknowledged the team's lack of creativity and quality in their recent goalless draw against Torino. Despite having 22 attempts on goal, Juventus could not capitalise on their chances, resulting in an expected goals (xG) figure of just 1.26. A win would have elevated them into the top four in Serie A.

Juventus have struggled to find the back of the net recently, failing to score in four out of their last six Serie A matches. This is as many times as they failed to score in their previous 38 top-flight games. Notably, two of the last four derbies with Torino have also ended without goals.

Spalletti became the first Juventus manager since Carlo Ancelotti in November 1999 not to win his first derby against Torino. He emphasised the need for improvement in front of goal, saying, "We lacked the quality and creativity you need when matches are this rusty."

Spalletti highlighted that sometimes a team needs an unexpected move or a touch of luck to break through defences. "In these cases, you need a move that goes against the flow," he explained. He believes Juventus has potential but must improve their play.

The manager noted that some players showed signs of fatigue due to playing just two days prior. However, he praised Zhegrova and David for their performances off the bench and Gatti's positive attitude during the match.

Room for Improvement

Spalletti expressed confidence despite the draw, stating that the team can learn from this experience. He acknowledged that they moved the ball too slowly and failed to switch play quickly enough across the field. Inside the dressing room, there was a shared sense of dissatisfaction among players.

While Spalletti remains optimistic about future improvements, he stressed that no one was content with the result. The team’s attitude was commendable, but they recognise the need for better execution on the pitch moving forward.
